PAPRs Donation for COVID 19 Frontliners of Queen Elizabeth Hospital

PAPRs Donation for COVID 19 Frontliners of Queen Elizabeth Hospital by Vascular Society of Malaysia

The 3rd wave of COVID 19 infection has hit Malaysia hard with Sabah being the most affected state. Sabah has recorded daily cases of 300 to 900, bringing the total number of infected cases to 13,701 with 114 deaths on 30th October 2020.

Around 10% of infected patients in Sabah are in Stage 4 (requiring oxygen treatment) and 5 (requiring ventilatory support). This translates to a large number of patients requiring oxygen treatment and intensive care. Oxygen treatment, the process of intubating the patients and ventilatory support are
associated with aerosol generation. This may expose health care workers to the infection if they are not protected adequately by proper personal protection equipment (PPE).

On the 30th of October 2020, the Vascular Society of Malaysia (VSM) has donated 4 pieces of powered air-purifying respirators (PAPR) to the intensive care unit of Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu. PAPR is a device that delivers clean air to the user after the filtration process of pollutant and pathogen. We hope this sincere donation from VSM will help the selfless frontliners to continue to work in the safest possible environment in taking care COVID 19 patients.

Let’s continue to fight this battle together with each of us doing our part. Keep safe.
